European Contest started in Poland
Artur Michalak, Kraków PL (E.U.)
On Sept. 15th-18th in Kraków (Faculty of Chemistry, Jagiellonian University), the national stage of the European EChemTest Competition took place. The competition was organized during the 1st Forum of Young Chemist, a conference organized for high-school students in Poland. The European EChemTest Competition is addressed to students at the secondary education level (before entering university).
The competition is organized by the EChemTest Testing Centres and consists of two stages:
(i) Local/National stage - organized in each of the Testing Centres (September 2011 - February 2012);
(ii) European finale - organized in one of the Testing Centres in February 2012.
During the Kraków event, 79 high-school students from all parts of Poland participated in the first stage of the competition in which there had to solve "GC1" General Chemistry 1 test (in Polish). The average result was 84.9%; 4 students solved the test with the maximum score of 100%.
11 students were qualified for the second stage in which there had to solve "GC2" Level 2 General Chemistry test (in Polish). The results were in the range of 61%-93%, with an average of 74%. The two winners that will part in the European Finale were:
Damian Antoniak from Warsaw - 93 % in GC2 (100 % in GC1)
Tymoteusz Basak from Kolobrzeg - 81 % in GC2 (97 % in GC1)
