Chemistry and the Bologna process – current status and further needs

which will be held from September 08 - 10, 2009, at the Technische Universität Dresden / Germany. The conference will be organized by ECTN together with TU Dresden, the German Rector’s Conference and the German Chemical Society. It will be supported by German chemical companies. This conference summarizes the achievements of the European Chemistry Thematic Network and looks ahead to the Bologna era after 2010.

The programme of the conference is being developed by a Scientific Committee (Chairman: Prof. Dr. Terence Mitchell, TU Dortmund). Prof. Dr. Reiner Salzer, TU Dresden is responsible for the conference organization.

The scientific part of the conference will be complemented by a rich social programme, including receptions, an organ concert in the reconstructed Frauenkirche (free to registered participants) and an Othello performance in the famous Semper Opera (tickets paid privately). The outstanding Maya codes (Codex Dresdensis) will be accessible to interested conferees.

Hotel rooms have been reserved in a hotel very close to the railway station, conveniently located to reach the historic city centre as well as the conference venue at the university campus. Rooms have been pre-reserved in the same hotels for participants who plan to extend their stay privately (single: 80 EUR, double: 105 EUR, incl. breakfast).

Paid tours to touristic highlights inside Dresden as well as to popular destinations in the vicinity (china factory and castle at Meißen, cathedral and museums in Freiberg, historic steam-boat to Pillnitz castle, wine tasting in the Elbe valley, spectacular sandstone formations (“Saxonian Switzerland” – one source of the German romanticism) will be offered to accompanying persons and as post-conference activities.

Costs for ECTN Delegates

The ECTN will cover accommodation costs for up to 3 nights, lunches on Wednesday and Thursday, dinner on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evening, for all ECTN working group members and for one person from all ECTN member institutions who have no working group members.

The ECTN will not reimburse any travel costs or other expenses except in exceptional circumstances. It is suggested that participants should request travel costs from their university Socrates Institutional Contract (organisation of student mobility) if possible. The plenary meeting is an excellent opportunity to discuss student exchanges.

Accompanying persons will be charged a fee of EUR160. This charge covers the extra cost of accommodation (double room) and breakfast for up to 3 nights, the receptions on the 8th, 9th and 10th September. It does NOT include any lunches and coffee breaks. This extra fee should be paid on arrival at the registration desk.
