Conference on Chemoinformatics, Pune (India), January 22-24, 2007
Received from:
M. Karthikeyan, Pune IN (World) - February 14, 2007
The conference in its first edition was a great success ... you can
find valuable information on the conference website:
http://moltable.ncl.res.in/icci/
NL Editor: extracted from the
conclusion of the abstract conference as I think to be an important
announcement to be raised to the community: "During the
conference Dr Karthikeyan proposed a need for establishing Indian
Chemical Informatics Society (ICIS), which was well received by the
delegates, and all the delegates agreed for the formation of ICIS.
Many participants from Pune agreed to volunteer for the formation of
society. He highlighted the main aim and objective of the society to
promote the general advancement of Science and Technology of
Chemoinformatics in the country. This includes providing a forum for
exchange of information amongst the members and persons attached to
the Society. It is an educational, scientific, non-political and
non-profit making organization catering to the needs of its members
from various disciplines for science, engineering and technology."

New Journal on Analytical Chemistry
Received from:
Vladimir Zaitsev, Kiev UA (World) -
March 13, 2007
The first
issue of a new scientific journal titled “Analytical Chemistry and
Chemical Analysis” has come out. It was founded by the Shevchenko
National University, Kiev, Ukraine. The editor-in-chief of the new
journal is Doctor of Chemistry Vladimir Zaitsev. The journal should
ensure prompt publication of results of research in the field of
analytical chemistry, including research into sample preparation,
metrology, chemical sensors, chromatography, the development of new
methods and materials for analytical chemistry, pharmaceutical
analysis, and bioanalytical chemistry.
One of the tasks of the new journal is to decrease the gap between
applied analytical chemists and scientists working in this branch of
chemistry. The journal will have four issues per year. Articles can
be submitted in English, Russian, and Ukrainian. It is planned to
switch to publishing in English.
The journal will publish reviews by leading experts, original papers
covering scientific and applied problems of analytical chemistry and
neighboring fields, and papers on recent advances in analytical
instrument making. The journal website is

ECEN
the European Chemistry Exchange Network at the Annual Conference of ECTN
2007
Received from:
Johannes Fröhlich, Vienna
AT (E.U.), March 29, 2007
Dear Colleagues and Partcipants of the
ECTN2007 in San Sebastian,
this conference for the first time
an ECEN (European Chemistry Exchange Network) student workshop will
take place.
Date: Friday, 13.4.2007, in the time slot for the parallel sessions
from 11:45-13:30 (http://ectn2007.chemit.at/program.php).
8 students from different countries
have been invited funded by the ECTN provided that they deliver a
short presentation (10-15min max.), preferred in PowerPoint format.
The mini-lecture should answer questions like:
from what institution do you
come from, where did you spend / do you spend your student
exchange time abroad?
what chemical / study subjects
did / do you focus on?
what were your expectations to
achieve with regard to student mobility?
where your expectations
fulfilled (e.g. learning/teaching/study, scientific scope,
culture/new impression, contact to teachers/local
students/people outside the university ..)?
what about the acknowledgement
of the ECTS credits obtained abroad at your home institution?
what about the bureaucracy
associated with student exchange (suggestions, wishes,
complaints)?
They have been animated to prepare
an informative, interesting and also entertaining presentation (e.g.
with some photo during their stay, which might give us an impression
about their everyday student life, about work in the lab, about
culture and sightseeing at the place of their stay etc.). I guess
this workshop also might be of interest for
institutional/departmental ECEN co-ordinators.
Of course, all attendees are welcome to attend the presentations of
the students.
With best regards,
Johannes Froehlich
President ECEN
